De Anza Cove Parcourse

Everyone knows that exercise is one the best stress relievers there is.  That is, behind laughter and sex.  Exercise outdoors is even better and if you’re in San Diego you have no reason not to.  The weather here is awesome 12 months of the year. If you are looking for an alternative to the gym, then look no further.  Located in Mission Bay is the De Anza Cove parcourse.

Parcourse, also know as fitness trails, have been around for a long time.  They began in Europe in the late 1960’s and migrated over to the USA.  They can be thought of as an outdoor gym.  There are varying degrees of difficulties and can be comprised of manmade or natural obstacles, workstations, or exercise equipment.  There are several parcourses in San Diego, and a complete list can be found here.  They are free to the public.

The De Anza Cove parcourse is easy to access right off Interstate 5, and there is plenty of parking.  A long level paved path is available for running and biking.  Dogs must be kept on their leashes.  Bathrooms and drinking fountains are interspersed through the park.  An outdoor shower can be found at the northern bathroom station. There are plenty of BBQ grills, picnic benches, and even a volleyball court and a boat dock.
