Charlie Arbelaez Organ Trio

Charlie Arbelaez Organ Trio

There are some nights that you start to text message during the music and leave the club early.  Then there are nights like August 2nd, 2015.  The Charlie Arbelaez Ogran trio dominated the stage at Navajo Live in Grossmont.  Featuring the wickedly cutting improvisations of bandleader Charlie Arbelaez, the group was on fire.  Jake Najor was laying down nasty drum beats, and at the center of it all was organist Bobby Cressey.   Areblaez’s longtime musical counterpart from the USMC, Matt Hall, was also on stage armed with his trombone.

Areblaez, in addition to his busy schedule as one of Southern California’s most in demand sidemen, has a new studio album.  The self titled opus #1 was recently unveiled at a poolside event on August 8th, 2015 at The Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego, CA.  It features the musicianship of Wille Jones III (D), Jason Shattil (P), Danny Weller (B), Matt Hall (Trmb.), and Gilbert Castellanos (Trpt).

Charlie Arbelaez self titled album debut. Available for purchase now.

I spoke briefly with Arbelaez about the record while he was at a US Marine Corps retirement party for one of his brothers in arms. This is what he had to say….

We recorded [the record] in 3 hours on February 2nd.  We just went in the studio for a few hours and that’s what we came up with.  That’s exactly what you hear. It’s my first album.  I’m gonna do many more.  You can buy it on my website or CDBaby…  iTunes and Amazon is on the way. © C.
